Let’s talk home renovations!

We’re embarking on our big plans to change things up, starting with the bathroom. It’s been a few weeks of tile samples, awaiting quotes, and figuring what we can actually do in such a small space (our bathroom is tiny - makes cleaning it easy but the kids’ bath time a bit chaotic!).

I think we’ve settled on some wall tiles (samples from @your_tiles!) and I’m pretty sure we want a plain floor tile (swipe for a sample we got that I’m not 100% on). What do you think??

Also, do you like seeing this kinda thing on the grid? I’m having a crisis of confidence on what to post here!

Well this is something new and exciting! Kaitlinn got in touch with me to design a custom patch for her wedding favours, such a cute idea! From a few sketch ideas we nailed down one concept that I worked up, after a couple of tweaks (can you see?) I got the design made by my trusty manufacturer. They’ve arrived this week & we couldn’t be happier!

New patches & stickers are here! I designed these because most trail/walking/hiking patches are SO. BORING. Right? I remember when Adam and I completed the Hadrian's Wall path and I was so disappointed in the pin. Like, guys, I just walked across the country and THIS is what I can get to commemorate it?! 🤪

This might be the start of a new mini collection for some of my favourite walks (Hadrian's Wall next, maybe? Kinder Scout?), but where better for it to start than the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Whether you've done the full-on day challenge of all three, or you've just tackled the one, I hope these colourful designs make the perfect addition to your walking pack!

I made a pact with myself that this summer would be full to the brim with Good Things, being the last one before we lose Eli to the education system (😢🥹 emotions are truly mixed!). I’ve made a checklist of things I want us to do - some are free, some are days out, others are just small activities, and some are overnight adventures (um so camping with a 1 & 4 year old will be fine, right?!).

We checked off the first one today with some wholesome strawberry picking 🍓 We headed up to Bentley Grange farm (Emley way, if you’re local) and spent a good hour or so filling our punnet with strawbs (with Eli sampling along the way) & then our tums with icecream!

And bonus: no one cried! (though there was a badly aimed outdoor wee but we have spare clothes for that 😅)

🌻 I’ve been wanting to visit @rhsbridgewater for so long! We finally made it there today (thanks to the national Lottery/Visit Britain voucher it only cost me & my dad £2.70! the kids were free). I’m a sucker for a good garden, and this one was soooo beautiful. We didn’t make it around the whole grounds, it’s huge, so we’ll definitely be back.

🌸 Walled gardens absolutely bursting at the seams with flowers, I’ve never seen such amazing flower beds!
🍃 Lawns and woodland where they don’t mind kids playing (there’s a woodland play area but we didn’t make it there today)
🪑 Plenty of benches dotted around, and some picnic tables too!
🐝 Loads of bees, bugs and butterflies (Eli took his bugnoculars and had a blast!), we even saw a few dragonflies!
☕️ Several places for coffee, and a couple for food (though the line at the main cafe at lunch saw us doing a swift exit to Trafford for a cheeky KFC)
🌱 Plants to purchase at the garden centre & a vasssst gift shop (found some pocket money price bits for the lads which is always a winner!)

I feel like we might start cheating on our NT membership and visit a few more RHS sites 👀 Any recommendations?

I had so much fun working on these new illustrations based on the Yorkshire Three Peaks!

I’ll be honest, since Asa was born and the absolute all-encompassing busyness that comes with a baby (& pre schooler!) I’ve not been the most productive where new work is concerned. It’s only recently that I’ve felt my mind calming & my creativity coming back a bit more. It feels good! 🤌🏻

For Eli’s birthday we headed over to Skipton for a visit to one of his faves - @billybobsparlour! If you’ve never been before, it’s an American themed diner with an AMAZING play area and play barns.

We played before we ate (it’s £3 for the kids to play) because it would be impossible to keep him seated with the prospect of play. So, Adam and I grabbed some flat whites, booked a table for an hour later, and we hit the wooden playground vehicles & the play barns! There’s stuff for kids from around 3-9y, always nice to see a variety of sized stuff for diff age groups.

After a good old play we headed back inside to eat. We all had milkshakes which were delicious but massive, I couldn’t finish mine. Adam had one of the hot dogs (the biggest hot dog I’ve ever seen jeeeeez), I had the pulled pork burger, and E had the ‘puppy dog’.

We had planned ice cream too but only Eli had room left (even then we ended up finishing it for him).

WHEN DOES IT END?! 😅 honestly it feels like they bring something new back from nursery every week - even worse when there’s two! This week I’ve developed cellulitis around my eye after a series of eye infections. Stop coughing in my face, kids!

BIG CHANGES!

I talked about this on stories the other day but wanted to give it some grid permanence, maybe the start of a renovation story even.

You've probably seen me mention that we've been wanting to move house for the last couple of years. This house isn't quite big enough for us as it currently stands. Eli's in the box room, Asa's still in with us (which is fine, we co-sleep a lot still so it's easier), our office (pictured here) is the other double room.

Interest rates have done a number on our plans, though. The properties we've been looking at would mean a hefty change to our mortgage payments (we're talking triple what we currently pay). When we got a new mortgage in principle last year it would've been manageable, but with the ongoing increases in rates? Nah, mate. The price we were looking at monthly just 12 months ago has gone up an extra £350 a month. Add on nursery fees and nope. It would mean *too* many sacrifices to our daily comforts. Sacrifices we're not willing to make while the kids are small and we want to have adventures with them, all for the sake of some more space and a downstairs toilet. It just doesn't seem like a sensible decision to take on a mortgage with a terrible rate when we don't quite *have* to.

So! We're staying put for a couple of years at least and renovating the space we have. First jobs: new bathroom, moving the boys into the office and our office into the box room (hello clever storage solutions, where are youuuuu), and renewing a subscription to Living Etc.

For the first time in a LONG time I'm feeling excited about the potential we have in the house! I’ll be sharing everything we do, obvs.

Come with us for a meal to Pym Kitchen in Avengers Campus at Disneyland Paris! This is a fun all-you-can-eat restaurant based around the Pym Particle from Antman, so they’ve made the food big and small. You can get a slice of giant hot dog or a teeny tiny one instead, or a slab of giant burger! My dessert here was part of a giant oreo (spoiler: tastes nothing like an oreo).

Was it worth 45€ per adult? I think so, IF you’ve got a big appetite (I don’t think me and Adam ate again that day!) and do a couple of plates + dessert. I was a bit disappointed in the signature cocktail if I’m honest, the mocktail sounded more fun!

OH BOY! My friend Cat from @catfoodcakes has sent me her new bbq s’mores brownie tray and it DOES NOT disappoint! Made with a base of her ✨iconic✨ salted caramel brownies, topped with handmade marshmallows & Graham crackers and colourful sprinkles from @shirebakery - it’s bloody amazing. If you’ve not tried Cat’s brownies before you’re missing out, they’re the best I’ve ever had. I popped this on our bbq for 10 mins and the results were 🤌🏻 exceptional. Thanks for sending us one to try Cat! You’ve nailed it!

Hand luggage only to Disneyland with a baby and a preschooler? Nailed it, mate!

It was a bit of a juggle at some points but definitely doable! Here are my top tips:

❤️ Take a double pram! Not only does it save your life for tired little legs (and essential for @disneyparksuk parks until at least 8 I reckon 🤣) but it doubled as a luggage trolley. Ours is the @joie_global Aire twin.

❤️ Take a sturdy baby carrier (we took our @ergobabyuk omni 360), the best for getting on and off the plane.

❤️ A @trunkitravels, while not the best for packing (better with the insert though!), is super useful in the airport.

❤️ Have a ‘wets & elecs’ open tote bag for gliding through security. Redistribute once you’re through.

❤️ Packing cubes! Some love them, some hate them. I’m a fan! We had one for each of us, rolled up clothes in their ‘outfits’ squeezed into each.

❤️ Don’t skimp on shoes. At least one spare pair. My feet got super sweaty (gross) and rubbed in my trainers on our journey out, luckily I had my uggo-cute @teva hurricanes in my bag to save the day!

❤️ Allllll the extra time because you’ll definitely need it 😵‍💫

❤️ Cabin size rucksacks! We have a great one from @cabinmax, getting stuff on your back and out of your hands is essential. We also have a great @roka_london rucksack which we use for most days out anyway, this was our park day bag filled with all the essentials (and nappy bag!).

ad Well this is exciting! The girls have received a brilliant box full of freshly frozen food from @butternutbox to try. Butternut box meals are made from human quality ingredients (the recipes are even taste tested by humans!) which have been freshly frozen to lock in those important vitamins & minerals. It’s also tailored to your pet depending on their age, weight & dietary preferences, which is great for us because Luna has some intolerances. I’m really impressed with how appetising the defrosted food looked - and the girls absolutely demolished their portions, so I think they definitely approve!

Disneyland spam incoming! We’re here at Disneyland Paris for our first time EVER (crazy, right? Adam and I have done WDW multiple times, Disneyland California and Hong Kong Disney but never DLP!). Today didn’t go quite as planned but we’ve been in the park & ridden Phantom Manor and It’s a Small World so things are looking up ✌🏻

New hair who dis! 💁🏻‍♀️

I am *terrible* for booking hair appointments, even worse since covid. Last time I had my hair done was back towards the end of September 😳 so it was verrry much in need of it. I managed to get a cancellation appointment at @hausofhair_byamyandco with the lovely Hannah, I’m so happy with how it came out! Brightened up for summer and back to my favourite length ❤️❤️🤌🏻

And I even booked my next appointment there and then ✌🏻
